About | Theatre Of Botany

As humans, we once told stories that involved the biodiversity and us. Slowly, through the passage of time, we began to exclude biodiversity until a point today, where almost all our stories are about ourselves, and we no longer recognise most trees around us — becoming tree blind. Loss of stories with biodiversity is the first step in our loss of relationship with the trees around us. If we can't recognise the trees around us, we can't have a relationship with them.

Theatre of Botany is a storytelling project that aims to erase tree blindness and re-telling stories old and new of those who came before us.

Each narrative is a sensory experience that utilizes drama, storytelling, and fragrances —  exploring botany’s impact on human history — taking place amongst the living stage of nature.

ORIGIN STORY

Oftentimes, I’ve roamed gardens clueless as to what I am seeing, where I need to go, or what exactly makes a certain tree special. More often than not, this information was buried in books and zealous research. Everything a casual visitor is unaware of and/or not inclined to pursue.  This project is a creative experiment run by Hand Jobs inc. This is an to help people befriend the botanical diversity around them. It’s only if we can befriend them that can we hope to conserve them. Recognising species is the first step towards that. Friendships begin by learning names.  Previously this project has run successfully at Lal Bagh Botanical Garden, Bengaluru, India Rani Baug Botanical Garden, Mumbai, India Maharashtra Nature Park, Mumbai, India
